Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe ranks in the top 18 percent nationwide for quality measure performance

Beaumont Hospital, Grosse Pointe has been recognized by The Joint Commission as a “Top Performer of Key Quality Measures,” ranking in the top 18 percent of hospitals in the nation reporting core measure performance data.

The honor recognizes hospitals and critical-access health care providers that have attained and sustained excellence in heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children’s asthma care, inpatient psychiatric services, venous thromboembolism  care and stroke care for 2011.

Beaumont, Grosse Pointe achieved a performance of 95 percent or above on all accountability measured data it reports to The Joint Commission. The quality performance categories the hospital was recognized for include heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care. The hospital is one of 13 in Michigan recognized by The Joint Commission. It is one of only three in Michigan recognized for top performance in four out of eight performance categories.

“We are elated to be recognized for the superb care our patients receive for the second consecutive year,” says Donna Hoban, M.D., senior vice president and physician-in-chief, Beaumont, Grosse Pointe.  “Our physicians, staff and volunteers have always put the patient first. As we celebrate our five-year anniversary, this recognition validates what we have always known – we have the best team in town.”

In ranking hospitals, The Joint Commission looked for evidence of continual improvement in a hospital’s core measure performance over a nine-year period.

Quality measures examine either a process of care or an outcome of care. Process of care measures are reported as a percentage or as a rate, indicating how often a health care provider gives recommended care that is known to give the best results for most patients with a particular medical condition.

Out of the 3,300 hospitals submitting accountability measure data to The Joint Commission, Beaumont, Grosse Pointe was one of 620 to meet or exceed the target rates of performance in 2011.
