Detroit Dog Rescue to Help NYC Hurricane Sandy Relief Efforts

"Operation Detroit Kibble Drop" will assist with pet food shortage in hurricane damaged areas

DETROIT - In the wee hours of the morning a small team of staff members from Detroit Dog assembled and loaded over 4 tons of dog and cat food into a 26’ foot U-Haul trailer truck bound for the hardest hit areas of Long Island and Staten Island, New York.

Detroit Dog Rescue felt the need to respond and help after receiving a SOS call from sister animal rescue group Guardians of Rescue in New York, regarding a shortage of pet food and supplies for pet owners who survived Hurricane Sandy then slammed by a Nor’easter in the hardest hit area of Staten Island, NY.

Hurricane Sandy became the perfect storm that took human life, caused billions of dollars in property damage and uprooted families across 14 states and we know equally affected are family pets who now are living without shelter or food,” said Dan “Hush” Carlisle, cofounder and executive director of Detroit Dog Rescue, who lives in Grosse Pointe Woods.

“Last week when our good friend Robert Misseri from Guardians of Rescue and producer behind the Animal Planet’s reality show "Pit Bulls and Parolees" put out a call for help to the rescue community for pet supplies--it was a done deal Detroit Dog Rescue would do whatever we could to contribute.  We went to our supporters, donors and vendors here is Detroit and with little time and a lot of effort managed to secure over four tons of dog and cat for pet owners in New York.  Detroit Dog Rescue has been blessed to serve a caring and giving community in Detroit who embraces and supports our mission to establish the first no-kill shelter in the city and encourages us to support others in need,” said Carlisle.

Detroit Dog Rescue with Guardians of Rescue will be unloading and distributing pet food and supplies to pet owners in need on Staten Island.
