Diamond, Charlie and Bailey Win the Michigan Patch Dog Show Contest

Patch readers submitted more than 80 photos of their favorite pups.

The winners of the Michigan Patch Dog Show Contest embrace both the sun and the snow.

Diamond, a Dalmation mix owned by Loretta Bradfield of White Lake, was chosen by our judges for her "stunning" features and beauty. In the submitted photo, she is looking up at the camera with a background of snow.

Bradfield said she "constantly" takes photos of Diamond and that her favorite thing about her pet is her loyalty.

Winner Charlie, a Miniature Dachshund, is owned by Lisa Thomas of Clawson. Judges called his photo "adorable" and commented on the fact that he looks like he loves the snow.

Thomas explained the context of the winning photo.

"We hadn't taken any photos of Charlie since we first got him and he hadn't been outside all that often," Thomas said in an email. "We thought that since it was the first snowfall we should take him out to experience it. I was running around with Charlie and my husband was snapping photos. Charlie looked up at him at just the right time ... We just adore that photo!"

The third winner, Bailey, is a Yellow Lab that lives in Big Rapids. His photo was submitted by Michelle Arquette-Palermo of Lake Orion, whose brother owns the dog.

In the photo, Bailey is shown jumping into the lake in front of his house. Arquette-Palermo said she chose the photo because it is "the best representation of Bailey. He loves chasing tennis balls into the lake."

The judges chose Bailey because they said, "He is a great looking lab and the photo really captures the breed's personality."

All three submitters of the winning photos win a free two-hour "Create-a-Pet" party for kids at The Family Puppy, a dog store which has locations in Novi, Brighton, Flint, Roseville and Troy.

Judges of the contest were representatives of The Family Puppy.

Unfortunately, The Family Puppy does work with large commercial breeders. Most of them are located in northern Indiana (Amish). Some kennels have shocking violations listed on their recent USDA inspection reports and cage over 100 dogs-that screams puppy mills. Puppy Mill Awareness of SE Michigan has been closely tracking all for the stores breeders since 2009, however the stores has a history of working with mega mills in Minnesota (see Kathy Bauck) mentioned in a Detroit Free Press article in 2007. We have collected plenty of sad photos of some of the kennels. Please read all about our public education campaign on our message board. http://www.meetup.com/puppymillawareness/boards/thread/9714368/0/

Loretta, While I am not an attorney or representing to be one, I would suggest you contact an attorney, as well as your local police department, as there appears to be potential serious legal repercussions of what Pam has done. In addition the Family Puppy should also contact their attorney, as it also appears to me, Pam and her friends, can be held for any lost business which The Family Puppy can attribute to all the comments made by Pam on Patch. Not to mention Libel as well. Pam you are entitled to your rights, no one will take those away from you, but when they step over the bounds towards harassment and lost of business income, it becomes a serious legal issue.
How such a wonderful event for child can be turned upside down and turned into a stalking campaign shows the true animal, oops sorry, human you are.

Loretta I hope you have a wonderful time and truly enjoy the event. On behalf of all dog lovers across america, please understand what you are dealing with.

Pam, thank you for your passion and dedication for ending cruelty and torment of animals. I have not followed this tread to know all of what has been said, but I do know that animal advocacy and rescue is a very draining, tiring, and often thankless task. Many people do not care that precious animals are made to endure horrible suffering in a variety of venues --- laboratories, puppy mills, zoos, circuses, even in some home settings. It is heartbreaking to those of us who care, and it is a very steep hill to ascend. All we can do is to keep trying in the most compassionate manner that we can -- compassionate for the humans as well. God bless you, and do not let anyone bring your spirits down. Those who cannot help themselves depend on those of us who do care to try to help them.

I admire and commend what Pam is doing to stop what is going on in all the puppy mills as well as the tireless efforts she does to help stop this. I support everything she has done and have included myself on making sure people understand so much so that we no longer purchase anything from the store we purchased our dog once we understood what they do. However a line was crossed that should not have been crossed and for this we must protect the rights of humans as well.
