Grosse Pointe Athletic Club Announces Major Expansion

With the planned expansion, Grosse Pointe Athletic Club will offer fitness classes and nutritional counseling.

The Grosse Pointe Athletic Club (GPAC)  has announced it will be remodeling its facility and expanding its current location from 3,500 to 5,500 square feet. Carlos Borrego, club owner, made the announcement.

The new facility will increase the club’s presence on Fisher Road in the City of Grosse Pointe, taking over the space vacated by Salon Rielle. Also planned for the new expansion is additional parking, which will remain free of charge to club members.

The added space will allow the club to expand its service offering to include fitness classes and nutritional counseling. Plans are also underway to upgrade, or add, new fitness equipment and entertainment options.

"The classes are something we're excited about and it's something our members have been asking for," Borrego said.  Some of the proposed classes are spinning, Pilates, cross-training and performance classes.

Borrego said with the new classes and expansion, GPAC will also be hiring new staff members and instructors.

“Our club remains committed to providing the tools necessary to embrace and live a healthy lifestyle,” Borrego said. “By expanding the club we are increasing opportunities for our members to explore the many ways a healthy lifestyle is possible.”

Borrego, a former radiation oncologist, opened the GPAC 18 years ago at its current location on Fisher Road.  Originally opened as an investment, Borrego now oversees its daily business operation.

The expanded facility is expected to debut in Spring 2013 with a ground breaking ceremony in February. The public is welcome to attend.

“This new, expanded facility has been planned for quite some time and we cannot wait to share it with our members and the rest of the community,” Borrego said. “Now is a great time to be investing in Grosse Pointe and Michigan in general. We are so happy to be apart of it,” he added.
