Grosse Pointe South Show Choir Wins Grand Championship

Grosse Pointe South's two choral ensembles earned the Grand Championship in a competition last weekend in Ohio. It was the first time the teams had competed in about 7 years.

Grosse Pointe South's choral ensemble celebration in March 2013 following their first competition in more than seven years, where they were named Grand Champions and swept awards in best of categories.

After having a break from competition for several years, the Grosse Pointe South Tower Belles and Pointe Singers swept awards at a show in Ashville, Ohio last weekend.

The Tower Belles, which includes 32 female student singers, won in the following categories: Best Vocal Sound, Best Choreography, Best Show, Best Costume and Best Stage Crew. Sophomore Lydia Burton was recognized as the "outstanding performer" for the group.

The Pointe Singers, which includes 38 voices of females and males combined, was also named the Grand Championship Show Choir. They competed with 15 other schools and won in the categories of: Best Vocal Sound, Best Choreography, Best Show, Best Costume and Best Stage Crew. Sophomore Grace Muawad was recognized as the "outstanding performer" for the group.

In addition, senior Angela Dusina was named the Solo Competition's Grand Champion for her performance of "My Daddy's Son. She's been a part of South's choral program for all four years.

Congratulations to the GPS Choir Program which is thriving under the new direction of Christopher Pratt. The students were beyond glorious at the competitions!
