The death of a 19-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods woman is being investigated by Grosse Pointe Woods police after her parents found her dead in her bed in the 1500 block of Hampton Road Saturday.

Woods Public Safety Director Andrew Pazuchowski confirmed the investigation but declined to provide more information, saying that the death of any 19-year-old is suspicious.

Wayne County Medical Examiner Dr. Carl Schmidt said the woman's death has not yet been ruled on and his office is waiting for laboratory results as well as some additional information. 

Information about the death investigation is being released by request only from the Grosse Pointe Woods police. According to the only police report being released of many, the woman's parents returned home from being out of town and found her dead in her bed May 28. She was covered with a sheet and had her arms crossed over her chest. 

The woman was home with her 20-year-old autistic brother while their parents were out of town since May 25. Another man close in age to the woman was also staying at the house during the parents' absence, according to a neighbor who saw the pair taking out trash and then again through a kitchen window. 

Her mother told officers she figured the other man would be around the house while she and her husband were gone. Her parents first thought something was wrong when they tried to reach her via text message on their way home May 28. When she did not respond, the mother tried to call her several times on her cell phone and the home phone, but no one answered. 

When they arrived home shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday, they immediately went to her bedroom, where they found her dead.

The woman's body was turned over to the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office. Several items were taken into police custody, including sheets and a blanket, as well as a suitcase with a blue jacket that belonged to the other young man staying at the house.
