A pair of first-half touchdowns from Grosse Pointe South quarterback Robby Kish to wideout Kevin Reck set the tone for the Blue Devils who would cruise to a 34-6 victory Thursday night over Macomb Area Conference Blue rival Port Huron Northern.

The game opened the home season for South, which played Thursday night before a packed stadium, eager for a victory and a run at a repeat of last season, which saw the team advance to the state semifinals.

The squad looked solid on both sides of the ball.

The rushing combination of Eddy Mollison and Chris Weldon was problematic for PHN through much of the contest, while the Blue Devils defense was stout, particularly against the run and Northern junior standout Tyler Hughes.

The win pushed the Blue Devils' record to 2-0 on the season and 1-0 in the MAC Blue.

Next up for South is Sterling Heights High on the road.
