Update: CVS Robbers Tried to Steal ATM

Police say robbers tried to take ATM by crashing van into CVS store near Grosse Pointe Farms on Friday morning.

Story Updated on Dec. 28 at 1:36 p.m.

According to a report by WXYZ.com, the CVS drug store on the border of Grosse Pointe Farms at Warren and Mack Avenue was robbed by masked and armed robbers Friday morning around 7 a.m. The store is located in Detroit on the 18000 block of E. Warren.

Police say the robbers, dressed in all black, crashed a white van into the front of the CVS store and attempted to steal the ATM, according to a report by the Detroit Free Press.

“It appears they tried to take the ATM machine but were unsuccessful,” Detroit Police Officer Dan Donakowski told the Free Press. “They did flee with an undisclosed amount of cash, but it is uncertain at this time if the cash came from the ATM or the store.”

WXYZ reports that sources believe these suspects to be the same suspects that hit stores on Christmas and Christmas Eve.

According to the Free Press, police have said it is unknown whether two of the men may have been the same men who stole an ATM machine from a restaurant early Christmas morning. Similar to the CVS theft, two men ran a car into the front of the restaurant in the 9900 block of Gratiot Avenue at 4 a.m., loaded the ATM into their vehicle and drove away.

If it weren't for being on the border of GP I suspect this location would get robbed once a week. And no one would hear about it either.

GP Farms provided back up for this incident. Can't wait until Village Ace hardware moves to its new Detroit digs. Police back up without paying the taxes.

Chris,
Its true. We certainly dont pay a premium to solve problems created inside our cities. But, the reason we do is because nobody cares about crime in Detroit. So, we do more than any church, charity, civil rights organization, the state or federal government, etc... to secure the neighborhoods around GP. I don't mind because its a "quality of life" thing. But I do mind when we get called elitists or racists for it.

The thieves took a van and slammed it into the outside of the CVS. The van hit the wall next to an ATM. They then went inside and tried to drag out the ATM. They got it to the doorway, when they gave up and took off.

I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of other locations in the city of Detroit that don't get robbed once a week....what an ignorant thing to say. And I'm sure no stores in the suburbs ever get robbed either, right?

I also find you to be ignorant so here we are. Of course stores get robbed in the suburbs but not with the same frequency or violent nature.

Yes saw that on the news. I remember when it first opened I figured it would be robbed more often than it has been.
