Bob Bashara's Former Attorney David Griem Sentenced for Civil Contempt
Griem must pay $8,000 in fines in 90 days to opposing attorneys and the court.
Bob Bashara's former attorney, David Griem, was sentenced on civil contempt charges on Monday, Nov. 26 before Judge Kenneth King in 36th District Court. The charges stemmed from accusations that Griem had shared privileged information with Bashara's family and had issued unauthorized subpoenas regarding Joe Gentz.
Griem must pay the prosecution $2,000 as well as Susan Reed, the defense attorney for Joseph Gentz, $2,000 and the court $4,000 in fines by February 26, 2013, according to a release by the Wayne County Prosecutor's office.
During an Oct. 12 hearing, Griem pleaded responsibility for issuing a subpoena on a non-existent case to obtain records for Joseph Gentz and for giving discovery materials in Bob Bashara's case to a third party--which was in direct violation of the discovery order issued by the court.
According to an article in the Detroit Free Press, Griem did not comment during the sentencing hearing.
Bob Bashara has not been charged with his wife's death but pleaded guilty to solicitation of murder to have Joe Gentz killed--the handyman charged with killing Bob Bashara's wife Jane. Bashara will be sentenced next month and Joe Gentz' trial is set for Jan. 7.
