Say hello to Lake St. Clair Metropark, because Metro Beach just got a new name.
The Board of Commissioners for the Huron-Clinton Metroparks last week unanimously approved changing the name of Metro Beach Metropark to Lake St. Clair Metropark at its monthly board meeting.
“It is a regional park with so much more than just 1,000 feet of beach along Lake St. Clair,” said Anthony V. Marrocco, chairman of the board of commissioners in a release. “We want the name to better reflect the variety of activities and facilities offered at the park.”
The park was named St. Clair Metropolitan Beach when it opened in 1950. According to a 1953 report, it was renamed Metropolitan Beach Metropark to reflect its impact on the Metropolitan Detroit area. Over the years, ‘Metropolitan’ was shortened to ‘Metro,’ according to the release.
The park is host to numerous educational events and community activities, including youth ice-fishing events, historical re-enactments and a boating and outdoor festival, to name a few.

Now the Macomb County Board of Commissioners gets to earn their pay by renaming the cross-county road that leads to the park's entrance. To save them weeks of deliberations, let me suggest "Lake St. Clair Parkway".

If it ain't broke don't fix it....how much will this act cost...make all new signs..change stationary...all new maps..think all USA maps everywhere? What a waste full idea...we coulda used this money to Drug test all those welfare cheaters..just kidding..

I predict this will be like Macy's—we all still call it Hudson's from time to time. I can't see myself calling the park anything but Metro.

I like the new name but like those comments above, it will always be Metro Beach to me. As will Pine Knob & Hudson's.

The only names that should be changed are the ones on the Board of Commissioners that decided to change the name. Just another group of self important government lackeys with nothing better to do than tamper with something that doesn't need tampering. Metropolitan Beach Metropark **** to**** Lake St. Clair Metropark. "It is a regional park with so much more than just 1,000 feet of beach along Lake St. Clair" Yeah........ So much more than a beach. It's 1000 feet of Lake St. Clair! That's SO much more..... descriptive! ANAL to the MAX!

I think all of the comments so far sum up my thoughts. How will Harrison Township benefit from changing Metropolitan Beach's name? I'm sorry...Metro Beach Metropark's name. And when did that name change happen?

METRO BEACH, BABY!! So, who came up with this "new" name, anyway?
Rather then spend the valuable short supply of monies to CHANGE all the pamphlets, and all the info related headings. INCLUDING, changing the brick marque at Jefferson and 16 mile. Why don't they keep METRO BEACH the same, and use the monies to CLEAN UP THE BEACH AND WATERWAYS from debris and ecoli????? METRO BEACH, HUDSON'S, PINEKNOB. Those are what I recognize and refer too. Comfort names! By the way, the intelligent, Board (?) of Commissioners, is a stretch!

No doubt this is called an unfunded mandate, famous for we'll pass a law and the rest of you figure out how to pay for it...so this will filter down the pipe as is mentioned above, could end up a few million... that's $ 1,000,000.00 plus.....
