Street Lighting to be Updated in Grosse Pointe Park

DTE will begin work next week on a street lighting update project in Grosse Pointe Park. Crews will also be working in the City of Grosse Pointe and Grosse Pointe Farms later in the year.

Nearly 500 old street lights will be replaced in Grosse Pointe Park beginning next week as part of an improvment plan by DTE. The project is part of a larger improvement plan for the Park, the City and the Farms.

The circuit to the lights will be shut off for approximately 30 to 40 days and signs will be posted in the area as well as on residential doors alerting passersby of the work, according to a DTE press release.

The update will convert the current lighting from a 'series' set up to high-pressure mercury sodium vapor, which ultimately will allow the streetlights to not be impacted by one another.

Currently, if one street light goes dark because of a problem, the whole series goes dark. In the update, the remainder of the street lights will remain on when one is experiencing a problem, according to DTE.

Work will begin on Kercheval Avenue between Alter and Cadieux roads; then along Charlevoix and Mack Avenue, according to DTE. The updates include streets such as Bedford and Three Mile.

The project will continue in the City and the Farms in the spring.
