Underage Drinking Party, Host Under Investigation

Grosse Pointe Farms detectives are investigating a party involving several teenagers from throughout the five communities believed to be hosted by a 54-year-old Farms woman.

A 54-year-old Grosse Pointe Farms woman may face charges related to allowing an underage drinking party at her Fisher Road home June 16 after police broke up a party involving several teens ranging in age from 17 to 19.

The woman told police who responded to noise complaints that she had been sleeping and had no idea any underage drinking was going on in the house, according to a report.

Officers arrived at the house about 11 p.m. to find teenagers in the backyard run through the house and out the front door. When officers came back to the front of the house, they spotted several others running to the second floor of the house.

One of the teens trying to leave the house was stopped by officers and the others were found and brought to the backyard. While looking through the house for the teenagers who had run, officers found large amounts of liquor throughout the house as well as a bag of marijuana on the kitchen counter.

All of the teenagers were given breathalyzer tests on the scene, revealing blood alcohol contents of 0.02 to 0.13 percent. The legal limit for those 21 years of age or older is 0.08 percent.

All of the teens, who are from the Grosse Pointes, were taken to the police department and then released to parents.

The case has been turned over to detectives for review of minor in possession of alcohol citations for the teenagers and a violation of hosting an open house party for the homeowner, according to a report.

If the woman is charged, she would be the second person in the last year to be charged with violating the Farms ordinance related to hosting open house parties. The mother of a teenage boy who held a party her Hillcrest home was charged with the same offense last August.

The offense is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and $500 in fines.

Never run when the cops show up, kids. Also, don't leave your bag o' drugs in plain sight.

Why is this news worthy? This happens every weekend in GP. Shouldn't GP cops be focused on catching Jane Bashara's killer instead of breaking up house parties?

Hey Chad if you didn't notice you are on the Grosse Pointe Patch site. As a reader of such expect small town news specific to GP to crop up now and again. Most people wouldn't consider a principal leaving a school very newsworthy but it affects GP residents so they like to read about it. Also I'm not sure how deep your knowledge is of how the law enforcement system works but just quickly for your edification typical beat cops do not investigate or solve murders detectives do. Beat cops typically patrol neighborhoods for safety and respond to complaints or emergencies. So yes when one of their residents whom they serve makes a complaint they are required to respond and do their job.

Chad:

This parent alledgely allowing a underage drinking party in her home occured in Grosse Pointe Farms.

Robert Bashara happens to live in Grosse Pointe Park. You will have to contact the Grosse Pointe Park police department to discuss your concerns regarding the timeline of their "murder" investigation.

A law was broken and police responded. Kids running from police and what seems to be a parent that allowed it then lied to the police as well. I think it's at least somewhat news worthy, especially in a small community and might serve as a warning to others that this town takes all reports seriously and acts swiftly to resolve them. You seem to suggest that Grosse Pointe police spend their time investigating only "big crimes" and allow little ones to go overlooked...look how that's working out for Detroit.

Cool story Mark. Does it come with a table of contents and chapters?

In order for you to properly understand I suspect it would need large pictures rather than confusing words and numbers.

Haha! Give me a break man I didn't want to deliver a chin blow to a child especially since I have suspicions his cognitive abilities are impaired. It is generally frowned upon to lay a beat down on people with his condition. To be fair maybe it isn't his fault he may have had the umbilical cord wrapped around his neck or the forceps applied forcefully during delivery. It's hard to discern these things through a simple exchange on a website.

Mark, do you feel better after that comment? You must have some severe insecurity issues. Only an ignorant, self-loathing dolt like yourself would get excited about posting such foolish comments on the internet.

Well the ignorant comment is correct. I'm completely in the dark in regards to your low level brain activity situation. To be fair, you made the foolish comment, I tried to explain the nature of the article and then you followed up with the insult. I can't help but think my original assessment of your cognitive abilities is correct. The word "dolt" is tantamount to stupid and if the stupid person is educating you on how law enforcement works as well as the nature of a community website well what does that say about you?

Oh and yes I admit I let GP For Life goad me into furthering the insults. It is definitely one of my failings succumbing to peer pressure and caring too much about third party perspective. I want to fit in.

He is a wannabe Patrick Bateman who still lives in his parents' basement at 30 years of age. Much like you, Mark. No wonder you two are such good friends.

I'd have to agree this isn't very news worthy at all, this really does go on every weekend in high school...if someone was severely injured during this party then I could understand why it would make the news but other than that...waste of an article.
