This week's visions for vacancies property is a former bank at the corner of Mack Avenue and Roslyn Road in Grosse Pointe Woods. This commercial property at 21110 Mack Avenue has its own parking lot and is at the end of a residential street.
The building housed Community Central Bank, which was purchased by Talmer Bank and later consolidated with another Talmer branch located on Mack Avenue about a mile down the road.
According to a listing, the building is 1,918 square-feet and is zoned as retail. It features vaults and off-street parking with its own parking lot. The lease price is $4,000 per month.

Think about a fun GP Diner like Janet's Lunch in GP Park, & like our old Toddle House use to be...would need to be authentic to be a "real" diner experience !! Great location for Seniors at Sunrise to walk to as well.

Is it too small for a sonic burger?

I can't believe that someone put a Sonic Burger as an idea. I was just going to do that too.

Aren't there all ready enough places to eat in Grosse Pointe? What is really needed in the area is something that specifically targets young-ish people. Maybe an up-scale tattoo shop, skateboard shop or just a clothing store that caters to people from their late teens thru their mid-twentys. Please, no more restaurants, banks or dentists.

How is a tattoo shop upscale? Yeah brilliant idea. I'm sure a tattoo shop would be very profitable.

You are clearly someone that judges things they know nothing about. The modern tattoo shop can be a very nice, clean, well maintained business whose customer base can be normal people from all walks of life coming together in almost a gallery atmosphere. Long gone are the days of the seedy biker hangouts of the past. Ideology like yours is what's going to find this area void of anyone except for the most uptight and/or senior citizens within the next decade.

An indoor play area for kids or something that involves exercise, like a kid's gym.

Sorry, my response to my first post was directed at Mark...and I also like the comment by Avs.

I don't doubt you can make a tattoo parlor look nice but I think you're vastly overestimating the demand for ink in the GP area. It would have to be a destination draw to keep the business afloat. Sorry if that upsets you but the demographics just aren't there in this town. Also I wouldn't say the seedy biker hangouts are long gone. I would assert the majority of tattoo shops are seedy than like L.A. Ink. It is probably you who needs to quit being an ideologist.

You misunderstood my original statement. For one, you're right I do not particularly think a tattoo shop is classy nor is it frequented by a lot of classy people. That being said sure you can make it look nice and if it really was nice and cool spot I'm all for it. The reason I said it was brilliant in a sarcastic way is not because I think it is seedy but rather based on my comments in my other response to you. I just don't see it being a sustainable business in GP. I would prefer something that doesn't have to close down and create another vacant building in two years.

Hey Bob this is the type of thing that needs to get press and attention for bringing younger people into the Pointes. This is a great program and has already done far more than anything else in a short period of time to bring new young people in. 57 students in a year is incredible.

Mark, I simply feel that if the area doesn't start thinking of the younger demographic that is here, but is forced to spend it's expendable income outside the Pointes, it will soon be nothing more than a retirement village. (and the fact that your reference to a nice tattoo shop was LA Ink was a joke, yes?).

Yes it was of course a joke but I stand by the statement that the majority of tattoo shops are not nice and akin to galleries. Most of them are in strip malls and look like run down barbershops. Also I don't think you and I want so different things I just want businesses that are going to be sustainable as well. I don't think we have to worry about everyone running off campus to get a Pisces symbol tattooed on their hip.

Mark, that article is good and will attract some people to the area that may settle here to raise their families but it's one thing to get younger people (18-28?) to move and/or live here but my only concern is that there is nothing KEEPING them and their expendable income here. even i have a hard time finding anything to do around here if it doesn't involve a restaurant. what is there for a 19 year old guy to do in Grosse Pointe at 7pm on a Thursday?..you can only shop at Moose Jaw so often.

I was born and raised in GP, went away to college for four years, then moved back for a couple years after college to save money until I was ready to move out on my own. I absolutely love GP and I was gung ho about buying my first place there. I had the money to buy a nice little starter home right next to the Village, and I was ready to put down an offer.....but then I asked myself the same question you just asked. What do I do on a random week night? Sure, the Vil Grille is nice but after the 1,000th time going there you get a little bored. The parks are all lovely but they are only fun during the summer months..... Long story short, I decided a nice little condo right next to downtown Birmingham was a much better option. There are plenty of classy restaurants, bars, movie theaters, and clothing stores to keep its residents constantly occupied all year round.....I couldn't agree with you more Bob, GP really needs to step up its game or else more and more people will join me and move elsewhere.

I absolutely agree with both of you. Restaurants, bars, and shopping. These are not new issues to GP. However, I will take Lake St Clair over the west side all day.

Maybe we can get Dennis Rodman to open a whole chain of tattoo parlors, with the Woods as his home base! What was it that Tommy Lee Jones said about pink-haired Dennis in "Men in Black"? "Rodman's an extra-terrestrial..." That would really do a lot to boost the image of the Pointes, if only on Venus and Mars.

What in the world does Dennis Rodman have to do with tattoos...besides having them?! Once again, picking out one odd-ball and using them as the poster child for a whole industry is just crazy. I saw a guy with dreadlocks once at Banana Republic so they obviously cater to Rastafarian weed smokers, better not let them open in town...sheesh. I will say it again, I would just like to see something to keep a slightly youthful presence in the area, the tattoo shop remark wasn't a business proposal I was looking to get support for.
