Winter Storm Could Drop 3 to 7 Inches of Snow in Grosse Pointe Wednesday

A winter weather advisory for Grosse Pointe has been issued from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday.

Gas up the snowblowers, Grosse Pointe. The National Weather Service is tracking a whopper of a winter storm headed for Southeast Michigan.

The NWS has issued a winter weather advisory from 1 p.m. Wednesday to 7 a.m. Thursday.

While Grosse Pointe isn't expected to bear the full brunt of the storm, anywhere from 1 to 3 inches could fall during the day, with another 2 to 4 in the evening.

The snow is expected to start early Wednesday afternoon and continue though midnight, according to the NWS. Wind gusts up to 25 mph could also cause blowing and drifting snow, which may reduce visibility on the area's roadways to a half mile or less.

Wednesday's temperature will peak around 31 degrees.

With the return of snow, ice and and blowing snow, the Michigan Department of Transportation shared the following winter driving tips:

  • Buckle up.
  • Slow down when visibility is low and road conditions are snowy or icy.
  • Share the road with snowplow drivers and give them room to plow and salt roads.
  • Be careful on bridges, they can be icy when roadways are dry.
  • Accelerate and brake slowly and avoid abrupt steering maneuvers, especially when merging or changing lanes.
  • Don't pump anti-lock brakes.
  • Don't text and talk while driving.
