Woman Caught Peeping into Anita Baker's Home

City of Grosse Pointe police are investigating a woman who trespassed on Baker's property this week, peeked in a window and then tried to enter her house.

For the second time in a matter of months, Anita Baker, the Grammy-Award winning singer, has had to call City of Grosse Pointe police for an unwanted person on her property.

This time, Baker was using her computer in her home shortly after 11 a.m. Monday Jan. 30 when she noticed a woman peering into one of her windows. The woman then walked over to the back door and tried to enter the home, according to a police report.

She was unable to enter the home and then ran from the backdoor to a white Jeep that was parked in the street outside Baker's home, according to the report.

Baker took down the license plate of the Jeep and called police. She provided a detailed description of the woman and explained that she did not know her and had no idea why the woman was at her home.

A responding officer found the registered owner of the Jeep, who is a 45-year-old Shelby Township woman. The officer also found a photo of the woman in the Law Enforcement Information Network from her license. It matched the description given by Baker, and Baker told the officer the woman in the photograph was indeed the same woman outside her home, according to a report.

In early October, Baker called officers to her home about 3 a.m. after she woke to a 24-year-old Detroit man singing to her from outside her house. He refused to leave, prompting her to call police.

The man told the judge he believed he could convince her of his talent. He pleaded guilty in an agreement that calls for the dismissal of his case if he fully complies with orders by the judge and probation during the next year and does not get into any other trouble.
