- Local every day in
Michigan Senator Debbie Stabenow faces a reelection battle in her
home state at a time when her party and her brand of policy is in decline. Time Magazine reported that she was receiving a 38% approval rating last year. Like many of her colleagues, Stabenow may be forced to take an early retirement
in a year when President Obama's statist agenda of abject progressivism has
impoverished the states, unemployed many workers, and increased the national
debt to $16 trillion, with no leadership or insight from Stabenow or her colleagues in Congress to end the waste.
She and twenty two others in the Democratic caucus face a hostile voting
public, furious with a do-nothing Congress which has refused to cut costs, cut
spending, or cut the crap.
With this election year looking like her last, Stabenow is attempting to don
and deliver on Tea Party rhetoric. However, her walk does not measure up to her
fiscal-hawk talk.
This year, she attacked agricultural subsidies as chair of the Senate
Agriculture Committee, but her record on earmarks suggests that she is just one
more Washington pol who says one thing to her constituents at home, then votes
the Washington line of busting an already bankrupting budget. Legistorm.com indicates that Stabenow sponsored $3 billion dollars in pork to her state. Hardly a pro-limited government record.
Stabenow is still trying to dress herself up as a Blue Dog Democrat, fighting
profligate spending; in her last campaign, she supported a Balanced Budget
Amendment, yet she reneged on the pledge after her 2006 reelection. She voted
for ObamaCare, an outrageous entitlement and huge tax increase which robs Medicare and threatens to drag this nation down the road to state-managed serfdom.
One of the most impassioned appellants for the failing auto industry, Stabenow supported the tax-payer funded bailout of General Motors, an unfair abuse of state funds which inadvertently punished thriving automotive companies while forcing taxpayers to play shareholder to a failing company which has not broken free of overgenerous benefits to union strongholds.
Her support for the Fairness Doctrine in talk radio is an affront to the
First Amendment. She has authorized the ban for oil-drilling in the Great
Lakes, a move that could free up energy and free the United States from energy
dependence to hostile states in Africa and the Middle East. Her positions are
to the left of the nations and of little support to her constituents in
Michigan.
Stabenow wants to paint herself as part of the limited government solution
in Washington, D.C., yet her spending, her allegiance to the President on
failed domestic policies, and her continued support for cap-and-trade (minus
any meaningful legislation to improve the economy) all detail her as unfit to
continue for another term as the junior senator for the Wolverine State.
I hope that voters in Michigan, the only state which has endured a net decrease in population and a consistently high level of unemployment, will evaluate the record of US Senator Debbie Stabenow and the other Democratic elements in the state, whose policies have done nothing to alleviate the economic hardhships still hurting Michigan and the rest of the country.
No more Stabenow! Let 2012 be her last campaign, and a losing one at that.

While I am not a great fan of Ms. Stabenow. Your comment is unwelcome and unwarranted. You are a resident of the 33rd Congressional District in California and as such you should confine your political efforts to your own electoral district. Further I don't know why your writing is in the Grosse Pointe Patch whose focus is local information. Finally your logic is specious at best but then again it is an opinion and not factual. As the late Daniel Moynihan stated "You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts".

I appreciate your response.
Every Senator nation-wide makes decisions and upholds certain policies which affect me as well as every other voter in their home states. I support those legislators who respect the principles of constitutional rule, limited government, and fiscal discipline. Based on what I have read, Ms. Stabenow does not, and therefore I would prefer that she was not in office.
You are not a fan of Ms. Stabenow -- may I ask why?
You suggest that I have chosen my own facts -- which facts did I present that are inaccurate?
Thanks for your time.

Debbie Stabenow supported the Fairness Doctrine, Barack Obama's healthcare while the doors of Congress were closed to transparency and now she wants to be re-elected? No way ! She is history!
