As your next State Representative in District 1, I’ll use my office to tirelessly promote the advancement of Detroit, Harper Woods, Grosse Pointe Woods, and Grosse Pointe Shores, remaining mindful of the challenges and concerns that make these communities unique.
I'm a man of action. Take a look at this excerpt from my website:
Some of Scott’s most notable achievements as a professional have been as champion of small business working in real estate/economic development in Southeast Michigan. With over 17 years experience in community development, Scott has a comprehensive understanding of what it takes to create jobs.
Proven Results
In his current position as a Small Business Development professional with Midtown Detroit, Inc., Scott provides technical assistance, financing, business plan, and real estate services to over 1,000 small businesses in Detroit’s Midtown Area
As President of Hickory Block Club, Scott leveraged $2,500 of matching grants to provide $10,000 in home improvements for block club members
Delivered over $30 million in commercial development, over 300 new jobs, and $500,000 in tax revenue annually to Detroit & Michigan.
Sought and received $750,000 in financing to a community service center which includes over 100 Head Start classroom seats, a University of Michigan technology hub, & an adult literacy program
Created a $500,000 low interest loan program for small businesses along the Mack Avenue Corridor
Scott’s major priorities as a legislator include: replacing lost jobs and creating new ones, improving access to quality education and emphasizing a focus on the STEM disciplines, helping local businesses compete in the 21st-century economy, and facilitating the creation of a regional transit authority. He will continue to work hard to maintain a balanced budget while protecting our jobs, children, education, veterans, and promoting equality.

Hi Mr. Benson:
May I ask what are you going to do for the Pointes? Reading your post above, it appears that you are very much out of touch with the Pointes. As a resident of GPS for over 27 years, I would like to see a representative who is connected and in tune with the issues that we the residents have.

I apologize for the delay. A strong door to door effort has kept me away from the web.
I believe a strong regional mass transit system is something each of the four communities will benefit from in the long term. The level of dysfunction in our transit system is horrendous. Today our systems are leaving students, working men and women, and seniors stranded. Efficient transit/mobility is essential.
We've seen many attempts in the past to form an authority. There is anecdotal evidence that we may have reached a consensus in our region...regional mass transit benefits all. As an urban planner, I'm aware of the nuances we, as a district, must pay attention to during this process.
Many of the residents I've spoken with in GPS and GPW have expressed their concerns to me. For most, schools of choice ranks high among those concerns. I do believe a community should have the autonomy to decide whether or not their schools are borderless.
