Assumption Senior Expo
Call your neighbors, family and friends because it is time for the 19th annual premiere lifestyle and health expo for active adults. The 2012 Senior Expo is coming to the Assumption Cultural Center located in the communities of St. Clair Shores and Grosse Pointe Woods. The Expo provides area adults with an abundance of informative exhibits, educational seminars and valuable resources.
Each year Senior Expo hosts over 1,500 seniors and their families. For 19 years, this eastside community-based committee has dedicated itself to offering a day of health, wellness, recreation and community resource information to help design a happy, healthy and secure lifestyle. Visitors will enjoy over 50 exhibits about healthcare, retail products, managed care, workshops, Ask the Experts, on site health screenings, community resource center and activities and much more.
A complimentary luncheon will be provided by ShorePointe Nursing Center and Marchiori Catering and Detroit Police Blue Pigs and Gentlemen of Swing entertain. Screenings go beyond normal blood pressure check and include: Carotid Artery Ultrasound, Hand Massage, Knee Pain / Osteoarthritis, Pulmonary Lung Function Evaluation, Mini Chair Massage, Spine Evaluation, Body Mass Index (BMI), Balance / Fall Risk Assessment, Knowing Medications, Tip Evaluation & Replacement and more...Ask the Experts will include a Geriatrician, Pharmacist, Nutritionist, and Safety Expert. The Resource Guide, a valuable book for the older adult of available services throughout the Metro-area, is distributed at Expo and remains as reference all year through. The Guide was developed by the Assumption Cultural Center and the Senior Expo Committee and is made available at hospitals, city offices and committee facilities.
WXYZ –TV’s JoAnne Purtan, co-anchor of Action News at Noon and 5 p.m., and "Don't Waste Your Money" Consumer Reporter, is this year’s keynote speaker at 9:30 A.m. JoAnne joined WXYZ in 1998. Before coming home to Detroit, she worked as an anchor/reporter at WRGB TV in Albany, New York. Her work has been nominated for well over a dozen Emmy Awards. In 2011 she won an Emmy for a story she did on her father, radio personality Dick Purtan, as he retired after some 50 years in the business. JoAnne will share experiences from her career. Her deep roots here make her passionate about this community.

More About Assumption Greek Orthodox Church & Cultural Center
Assumption Greek Orthodox Church serves the residents in St. Clair Shores and the surrounding area. The church has a rich history that spans 80 years, beginning in Detroit and now at the current location in St. Clair Shores. Assumption's Cultural Center offers a variety of classes to the community throughout the year and the annual Greek Festival draws many people for Greek food, entertainment and unique items.
