The Drowsy Chaperone is a musical with book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison. Synopsis: Unlike its title, this upbeat, charming, silly homage to movie musicals of the 20’s and 30’s offers laughs, giggles and abundant Nostalgia. A beautiful Hollywood starlet, Janet Van de Graff, wishes to abandon her career and become the real-life wife of handsome millionaire playboy Robert Martin.
The wedding is set to take place in the very-posh mansion of Mrs. Tottendale. But wait! Remember what your daddy always said? “Follow the money!” Someone’s got to lose when Janet retires. Enter the devious producer and the two
Chicago-style gangsters dressed as pastry chefs. All this results in mayhem, hijinks and the eternal question: Will true love conquer all? What follows is a hilarious evening of fun for everyone, including the actors who will have the
time of their lives creating characters not quite, but almost, over-the-top. Performance dates are May 5, 8-12 and 16-18 at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial. Scripts are available for a refundable $20 deposit. For directions & loan of a script call Grosse Pointe Theatre at 313-881-4004. Music and vocal materials (edited audio tracks & corresponding sheet music of exactly what to prepare for auditions) are available digitally from the music/vocal
director, JayShaheen: JayShaheen@hotmail.com; phone 313-886-2208. General audition questions can be directed to Jon Lechner at thekid57@aol.com. Please refer to the GPT website for information about roles and songs for audition. http://gpt.org/
