Motor City Mix starts the party at 7 p.m.; fireworks ignite at full dark. No dogs or alcholic beverages allowed on the field. Rain date is Monday, June 25.

Thousands gathered along Mack Avenue, Vernier Road and in the yards of many nearby residents Sunday for the annual Grosse Pointe Woods/City of Grosse Pointe fireworks shot off in the Parcells Middle School lot. (File Photo)

Opened in 1948, Parcells serves more than 625 students from sixth to eighth grade. In a time when a lot of cities are cutting events like this completely out of the budget I think it's good that private businesses have paid enough for banner space on the fence to keep this alive. I have a feeling the Motor City Mix band agreed to play for a lot less than a "professional band" would (if they're being paid at all).

Can anyone confirm/deny that there was a stabbing? We overheard a teenage girl state there was a "little" stabbing as we were walking home.
