DTE Provides Update on Power Outage

A cable failure, and a pole top fire, led to power outages to DTE customers in Grosse Pointe Woods Sunday night.

DTE Energy has provided Grosse Pointe Woods officials with additional information about the cause of the power outage to about 1,400 customers Sunday night.

According to DTE, the outage was caused by an underground cable failure and the failed cable has been sent to a lab for testing. The cable failure affected residents east of Mack, and a pole top fire occurred which affected those west of Mack.

Service was lost about 5:30 p.m. Sunday, and restored about five hours later.

Officials from the power company have previously stated that nearly $4 million in work is being done to improve distribution by:

  • Clearing lines and creating a 10-foot distance between tree branches and power lines.
  • Circuit maintenance and circuit upgrades with wire and equipment replacement and upgrades, inspections and maintenance.
  • Upgrades including fusing and installation of fault indicators
