DTE to Replace Underground Cable in Grosse Pointe Woods

DTE crews temporarily fixed a problem at one of the substations Sunday and began work today on a permanent fix after residents and businesses experienced scattered power outages Sunday.

A substation at Mack Avenue and Vernier Road had a problem with a circuit breaker and an underground cable, which crews identified Sunday, Woods City Councilwoman Vicki Granger said.

They worked to put in a temporary fix Sunday but told officials both had to be replaced for a permanent fix, she said.

Those mainly affected are between Harper and Mack Avenues from Beaufait Street to Oxford Road, Granger said.

DTE crews were planning to return Monday to begin digging up the area where the underground cable is to replace it, she said, noting city officials have been in close contact with DTE crews. 

DTE is also continuing its . The gas line replacement project is expected to be completed before the end of November and aims to alleviate what residents have described as years worth of gas leaks.

A DTE spokesman told Grosse Pointe Patch the project is on-target as far as the original schedule and they are hopeful to be done before the end of the month but at the latest by the end of the month.
