Hockey fans took a skate back in time Tuesday as they watched the Detroit Red Wings alumni took on the Toronto Maple Leafs at Comerica Park.

The Alumni Showdown game featured at least three former Red Wings players who at one time called the Grosse Pointes home including:
  • Kirk Maltby, a retired left winger and current Grosse Pointe resident, was part of the 'Grind Line' and won four Stanley Cups with the Detroit Red Wings during his 16 seasons in the NHL.
  • Jimmy Carson, a Grosse Pointe Woods-native, played for the Red Wings between 1989-1993.
  • Steve Yzerman, who won three Stanley Cups as a player with the Red Wings and one as a vice-president, lived in the City of Grosse Pointe.
Carson played in the first game, which the Wings won 5-4. Both Maltby and Yzerman played in the second game which the Red Wings won 6-5 in a shoot-out.
