A quick pieces of information to get the day started in Grosse Pointe.

Five quick pieces of information to get the day started in Grosse Pointe: 

1. It'll be partly sunny and 77 with a chance of rainshowers before 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. It'll be windy too with speeds to range between 10 to 15 miles per hour but gusts as high as 22 miles per hour. Tonight the temperature will dip to 62. 

2. Several meetings this week including:

  • Grosse Pointe Woods city council will begin meeting at 7 p.m. Monday for a work session. The formal council meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. Among other agenda items, they will hear the first reading of amended or new ordinances expected to help the city retain the costs of certain city services.
  • The City of Grosse Pointe council will also meet at 7 p.m. Monday.
  • Grosse Pointe Shores city council will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday beginning with a work session and then move into the formal meeting upon the adjournment of the work session.  

3.  Stop in for  this morning at Caribou Coffee on Mack Avenue. Johnson will be available from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.

4. Patch will have updates on all of the election filings due Tuesday to the clerk's offices of each of the Grosse Pointe. Time to find out who is running and what office they are seeking.

5. All of the Parks and Recreation Departments of the Grosse Pointes have teamed up to offer . Get it on the calendar now for this Saturday, Aug. 20. They'll be showing Despicable Me on the lawn of Grosse Pointe South High School. The event is free and open to residents of all the Grosse Pointe. Grab a blanket, snacks and your park pass.
