Good Morning Grosse Pointe: July 13

A few quick bits of information to help you get your day started in Grosse Pointe.

Here are five snapshots of information to help start the day.

1. It's going to feel cooler today with a high of 77 following yesterday's 90-plus temperatures and humidity, according to the National Weather Service. The day is expected to be clear and sunny with lows tonight dipping to 61. 

2. The Schools of Choice plan proposed by Gov. Rick Snyder--who has identified the plan as one of his many ways to reform education in the state--will be in the multipurpose room of Brownell Middle School. The event is intended for discussion about the program that allows students to essentially attend any school regardless of district boundaries.

3. A in a 4:3 vote by the Grosse Pointe Public School Board in a contentious yet predicted outcome. Tom Harwood will become the next superintendent subject to a thorough background check, a site visit and successful salary negotiations.

4. The newest coffee shop in the Grosse Pointes will soon offer liquor and table wines after the Grosse Pointe Farms council approved its license. Morning Glory on the Hill will offer drinks such as Irish or Spanish coffees, as one example.

5.  The inaugural Shores-Pointes Adventure Triathlon is still in need of volunteers for Saturday's race, in which at least 78 people are running, biking and kayaking in Lake St. Clair. Even if you cannot volunteer, it should be a fun event to stop by and watch.
