A few quick bits of information to get the day started in Grosse Pointe.

Five quick pieces of information to get the day started in Grosse Pointe: 

1. There is a 90 percent chance of rain showers and a thunderstorm, according to the National Weather Service. The high will be about 68 with a 14 mph to 18 mph wind, with possible gusts reaching 23 mph. The temperature will drop to 58 tonight and the chance of rain is reduced to 30 percent. 

2. The council meets tonight beginning at 7 p.m. The following topics will be discussed and voted upon:

  • A resolution opposing the mandate of Schools of Choice.
  • A request by for outdoor seating and new signage.
  • A resolution to set a public hearing date on the special tax assessment for businesses on Mack Avenue for the streetscape improvements to coincide with the replacement of one of the city's major water mains.
  • An agreement reached with DTE to replace commercial district lighting.

In addition, Wayne County Commissioner Tim Killeen is slated to give the council an update on county-level happenings. Killeen has been making his rounds to the councils, most recently presenting to Grosse Pointe Shores. 

3. Look for an update today on the second clarity hearing regarding recall petitions filed again Rep. Tim Bledsoe. The hearing begins at 9 a.m. in downtown Detroit before the Wayne County Election Commission. with different language.

4. The at Waterloo and St. Clair streets is scheduled to be demolished this morning shortly after 9 a.m. Administrative offices have been moved out of the building and relocated to 240 Chalfonte in Grosse Pointe Farms. soon—a . 

5. Donate blood Thursday in the parking lot of the municipal building. The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be there accepting donations from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 313-881-5503 to schedule an appointment.
