Grosse Pointe Theatre Holding Auditions This Weekend

The Music Man will open in September but the director is looking to cast its fall production now. All ages are welcome and needed.

Everyone’s got a little song in them, right? If this sounds like you, then you may want to carve out some time this weekend to audition for the s (GPT) production of The Music Man, set to run beginning September 18.

The musical, which centers on con artist Harold Hill and his “offer” to start an all-boys band, has everything in it, including parts of children ages 6 to 12, teenagers and adults. Auditions will be held June 11 and 12 at the theatre, 315 Fisher Road.

“I look forward to directing a well-rounded show,” said Director Don Bischoff, who was seen last fall playing Jesus in the GPT’s production of Godspell. “This show has lots of parts for lots of different ages. But mostly, I love the whole happiness aspect of the play. Everything comes to a happy ending: Harold Hill goes from being a con artist to a better man, “maid” Marian ends up finding a man, little Winthrop finds a new father figure and everyone in the whole town ends up happier.”

Because of the wide range of actors needed for this play, Bischoff has split the audition times into groups. Children 6-18 will audition on Saturday, June 11, from 9 a.m. until noon. Those wishing to audition for the lead roles of Harold Hill or Marian Paroo should be at the theatre from 2-4 p.m. Sunday and auditions from 2-5 p.m. will be for featured, supporting and ensemble (adult) roles.

While this is Bischoff’s first time directing a show for the theatre, he is certainly not a theater newcomer. He has directed several shows for the Richmond Community Theater, and has had roles in The Music Man three times, including that of Harold Hill at Sterling Heights High School.

“It’s really just a fantastic musical,” Bischoff said.
