Grosse Pointe Woods Couple Given Lifetime Achievement Award

During a recent luncheon, Goodwill Industries of Greater Detroit awarded Matt and Karen Cullen with a lifetime achievement award for their roles in not only helping revitalize Detroit but also working to improve the quality of life for all in southeastern Michigan. 

The Cullens, of Grosse Pointe Woods, have both worked in a variety of professional settings in downtown Detroit for years. According to information released by Goodwill Industries, the couple has made "significant contributions" and have used their talents to generously to make improvements.

Karen Cullen is a public relations/communications professional. She worked for General Motors, Delphi and Illitch Holdings. She served as the president of Illitch Charities, is a founder of Belle Isle Women's Committee and Belle Isle Conservancy. 

Additionally, Karen Cullen is active with University of Detroit Jesuit High School, Detroit YMCA and according to information relased by Goodwill. 

Matt Cullen, who is the president and chief executive officer for Rock Ventures, worked for nearly 30 years in economic development and real estate for General Motors. In his current position, he is focused on redevelopment of downtown Detroit. 

He is chairman of the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy, a board member on Downtown Detroit Partnership and is the volunteer CEO of M-1 Rail--the rail car system being discussed for Woodward.

The recognition came during a community awards luncheon in which Goodwill Industries honors individuals, companies and organizations that have worked to revitalize Detroit and put metro Detroiters back to work.
