Why Go: The Detroit Tenors, featuring veteran saxophonists Steve Wood and Carl Cafagna, peform at the Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe this weekend.

Where/When: , grounds open at 6 p.m., concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 26.
Why Go: The Edsel & Eleanor Ford House and Detroit Jazz Festival have partnered for something new and exciting: Jazz at Ford House: A Prelude to the Detroit Jazz Festival. The concert features the Johnny Trudell Orchestra performing out in the open on the beautiful Ford House grounds.
Pricing: $25 for preferred seating, which includes reserved seating, parking and shuttle service to concert area

Where/When: Harper Woods High School, 20225 Beaconsfield; Aug. 27.
Why Go: This "A Stride 4 A Healthier Me" is a migraine and stroke awareness challenge. Participants will walk one mile starting at 8 a.m. or do a timed 5K run/walk at 8:30 a.m., navigating a course through the Harper Woods community. Pick up packet or sign-up starts at 7 a.m.
Pricing: $17 for racers, or $5 for the one-mile walkers. Call 313-516-7018 for details.

Why Go: Shop for in-season and locally grown produce, fresh breads and pastries, meats and cheeses, flowers, specialty items, and more at the West Park Farmers Market. Also, enjoy lunch and live music while you're there, if you're so inclined.

Why Go: Enjoy an evening of blues and rock as Mystery Train featuring Jimmy McCarty takes the stage at Dylan's this weekend.
Pricing: $5 cover.


Where/When: On the Hill shopping and dining district, Aug. 31.
Why Go: Racing For Kids is a event that raises funds for local children's hospitals and the Racing for Kids hospital visit program. From 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. a street fair will be set up where visitors can enjoy sidewalk sales, scavenger hunts, children's games, moon walks, refreshments and more. Plus local bands will perform, cool cars will be on display, and IZOD IndyCar driver Ana (bia) Beatriz will make an appearance. Then from 6-9 p.m. people can go to the reception and auction at Northern Trust Bank at 120 Kercheval, with gourmet fare from local restaurants, Dirty Dog Jazz Cafe providing the music and a luxury auction.
Pricing: Street fair is open to everyone, but the evening reception costs $90.
