Junior League of Detroit to Feature GP Home

The Grosse Pointe Shores home is on the market but will receive a makeover in the charitable organization's biennial fundraiser for the Detroit area.

The Junior League of Detroit gained permission this week from the city council to host its Designers' Show House at 22 Webber Place in May.

The event is a major fundraiser the Junior League organizes every two years and the funds go to a Detroit area charity or non-profit organization. Representatives appeared before the Shores council in November and again this week seeking permission.

Essentially a wide variety of contractors will work on the home between now and the first showing, which is May 5--requiring the Shores agreement for permits to do projects in and around the house.

In November, the council had received some concerns from neighbors, so the representatives were told to return after quelling such concerns from those who will live next door during the makeover.

Since November, the representatives contacted all of the neighbors via letter and held an informational meeting to answer questions. They submitted a list of 14 neighbors who had written letters in support of the home, which is less than a mile from Lake St. Clair, being used.

The home has a rich history as chronicled by the Detroit Free Press last weekend, which includes information about the detail and level of work put into the interior construction of the home.

It's a 1927 Tudor with seven bedrooms, seven full bathrooms and four half-bathrooms and a three-car garage. The 10,304 square-foot home is currently on the market for $1.29 million.

The Junior League had been considering a home in before choosing the Shores home as they were scheduled to go before the council there a few months ago but withdrew their request shortly before the meeting.

The Show House will be open to the public beginning May 5 through May 20 daily. The hours vary by day and in the past tickets have been sold in advance as well as at the door.
