Leak Puts Garage, Lower Level of Home Under Water

The vacant home has yellow crime scene tape strung across to block motorist from entering the driveway.

A leak, not a water main break, is responsible for flooding the lower level and garage of a vacant Lakeshore Road home, Grosse Pointe Shores Director of Public Works Brett Smith said.

His department received a call on Sunday from Shores police alerting him of the problem in the 700 block of Lakeshore Road, he said.

While the exact source of the leak is not known, the water was shut off to the house and the problem is contained solely to that house, Smith said.

It's attracted attention of motorists on Lakeshore Road, to the point police put up tape to prevent anyone from entering the driveway, he said.

The sloping driveway leads to the double garage on which the three story house sits. A brick wall runs along driveway and acted as a barrier for the flooding water, which is now pooled nearly all the way to the sidewalk.

Whomever is responsible for the house is now responsible for cleaning up the water and house, Smith said.
