Los Gatos Performs for Music On the Plaza Tonight

The weekly outdoor music series features a jazz band with salsa and latin style to their music.

Returning to the Music on the Plaza series since 2005, tonight's jazz band, Los Gatos, will offer mambo, salsa and latin dance style music on St. Clair Street near Kercheval Avenue in the Village.

The five member band has two released recordings.

In it's 24th seasons, the outdoor concert series performances are free and open to anyone who wishes to attend.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for the shows, which are every Thursday at 7 p.m. through Aug. 4 on St. Clair Street near Kercheval Avenue. City of Grosse Pointe police block off the street to motorists and the performers set up on the sidewalk. 

In the event of rain, the free concerts are performed inside  about two blocks from the normal location.

The series is put on by the Grosse Pointe Village Association as well as . 

The schedule as provided by the association is:

  • June 23-Los Gatos
  • June 30-Metro Jazz Voices
  • July 7-The Sun Messengers
  • July 14-Dave Bennett Jazz Quartet
  • July 21-Paul Keller Orchestra
  • Aug 4-Rhythm Society Orchestra

*Note there is not a concert July 28 as the Village Sidewalk Sale is July 29 to 30

Already this year, the Motor City Brass Band and the jazz bands from North and South high schools have performed as part of the series.
