Metro Jazz Voices Performs for Music on the Plaza Tonight

The weekly outdoor music series features a jazz band with salsa and latin style to their music.

A classic and comptemporary jazz ensemble named the Metro Jazz Voices will perform at Music on the Plaza tonight. The four vocalist cappella group will be backed by musicians playing the piano, bass and drums.

This is Metro Jazz Voices first performance for the annual outdoor music concert series.

The vocalists are Meri Slaven, Nicci Der Stepanian, Jeremy St. Martin and Carl Cafagna. The musicians are Jordan Schug, Mike Higgins and Scott Gwinnell, according to a Village Association press release.

In it's 24th seasons, the outdoor concert series performances are free and open to anyone who wishes to attend. 

Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for the shows, which are every Thursday at 7 p.m. through Aug. 4 on St. Clair Street near Kercheval Avenue. City of Grosse Pointe police block off the street to motorists and the performers set up on the sidewalk.

In the event of rain, the free concerts are performed inside  about two blocks from the normal location. 

The series is put on by the Grosse Pointe Village Association as well as . 

The schedule as provided by the association is:

  • July 7-The Sun Messengers
  • July 14-Dave Bennett Jazz Quartet
  • July 21-Paul Keller Orchestra
  • Aug 4-Rhythm Society Orchestra

*Note there is not a concert July 28 as the Village Sidewalk Sale is July 29 to 30

Already this year, Los Gatos, the Motor City Brass Band and the jazz bands from North and South high schools have performed as part of the series.
