Nearly 700 Without Power Following Storms

Two quick but heavy rain storms rolled through the area mainly hitting Grosse Pointe Woods and St. Clair Shores, knocking down trees, limbs and other debris and temporarily flooding streets Tuesday.

High winds and heavy rain drenched Grosse Pointe Woods and Shores Tuesday shortly before 5 p.m. causing twigs, limbs and tree branches to litter the roadways and even knocking down some power lines.

Nearly 700 customers are without power following the storms and a DTE employee is monitoring at least one downed line near the corner of Goethe and Hawthorne. He is waiting for a crew to remove the tree and restore the lines.

The storms blew through the area quickly but caused many side streets to flood, at least temporarily. Residents on Hollywood Avenue and Yorktown Street helped clear the storm drains to alleviate some of the street flooding.

Wind gusts were expected to reach 40 miles per hour Tuesday and similar conditions with wind gusts reaching 28 miles per hour are expected Wednesday.

DTE has not yet posted a restoration estimate for those without power. An outage map shows there are 682 customers without service in the 48236 zip code and two in the 48230 zip code.

Residents in the Park, the Farms and the City reported not receiving any rain Tuesday.
