Photo Gallery: Aftermath of Holiday Storms
An excessive heat warning, air quality alert and hazardous weather outlook remain in effect for today, according to the National Weather Service. The Pointes could be in for another round of storms similar to those on Fourth of July.
Downed tree branches, DTE trucks and power outages remain following the heavy storms that blew through the Pointes and southeastern Michigan Wednesday. According to the National Weather Service, there is a 30 percent chance of rain for today with temperatures reaching 92 degrees.

The expected winds today, three to eight miles per hour, are much more mild as compared to those that whipped through the area Wednesday evening. The National Weather Service cancelled its Excessive Heat Watch and issued an Excessive Heat Warning at 2:54 a.m. Thursday.

The combination of several days in a row reaching temperatures in the mid-to-high 90s, nighttime temperatures only dropping to the mid-70s and heat indices at more than 100 create a higher possibility for heat stroke and other heat related illnesses, according to the alert.
The heat index is to range from 105 to 110 for both Thursday and Friday. The alert recommends to those who work or have other activites outdoors to reschedule them to the early morning or evenings, or at a minimum to take frequent breaks.

It remains in effect through Friday at 9 p.m.
In addition, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality declared Thursday yet another Ozone Action Day in an air quality alert. This means the ozone levels in the air are much higher than what is safe for people with respiratory problems or children.
As part of the action day, the MDEQ recommends to refrain from fillig up the gas tank, using any gas-powered lawn equipment or charcoal grills during the day. It also recommends limiting outdoor exposure.
Meanwhile, according to DTE outage maps, 767 customers in the 48236 zip code remain without power. Most of those are in Grosse Pointe Farms between Moross and Kerby Roads from Mack Avenue almost to Lake Shore Road.
There is not a restoration estimate as of yet but crews are out and about in the Pointes working to restore the power.
