Candidate Forums, Grosse Pointe Park DDA, Talking Headstones, Grosse Pointe Gala and Pier Park Autumn Harvest

 

Here are the highlights of what's happening this week in the Grosse Pointes:

 

1.  Columbus Day

Monday, Oct. 8 is Columbus Day.  Many city offices closed for the holiday. Grosse Pointe Park City Council meeting has been rescheduled for Oct. 22.

 

2.  Last Day to Register to Vote in Nov. 6, 2012 Election.

Tuesday, Oct. 9 is the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 6, 2012 Election. Contact your city clerk for voter registration information.

 

3.  School Board Candidate Forum

Candidate Forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters Grosse Pointe. Candidates: William Broman, Judy Gafa and Cynthia Pangborn. Forum held on Tuesday, Oct. 9 at 7:15 pm - 9:00 pm at Grosse Pointe South High School, Wicking Library, 11 Grosse Pointe Blvd., Grosse Pointe Farms, MI 48236.

 

Grosse Pointe Park Downtown Development Authority Meets

GPP DDA to meet at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 10. in the Grosse Pointe Park Council Chambers on the second floor of City Hall.  The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was created to correct and prevent deterioratioin n the downtown district, encourae historical preservation and promote economic growth within the downtown district. 

 

5.  Candidates Forum: 

The League of Women Voters Grosse Pointe will host a forum for 2nd District state representative candidates Hans Christopher Barbe (GRN), Daniel Corrigan Grano (R) and Alberta Tinsley Talabi (D) on Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 7:15-9:00 p.m. at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.

 

6.  Talking Headstones:

An outdoor stage production of fictional vignettes portraying Grosse Pointe ancestors in historic St. Paul Cemetery. Those who live in the area will recognize many of the characters’ names from the streets named after them. Other characters are based on the personal family history of a writer. Talking Headstones is a collaboration of the Grosse Pointe Historical Society and Grosse Pointe Theatre. Bring lawn chairs and dress for the weather. 7.  Gala Auction at Grosse Pointe Yacht Club

The Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce hosts the Gala Auction at the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club at 7:00 p.m. on Oct. 12.  The famous Grosse Pointe Perch will be auctioned to benefit Services for Older Citizens and the Grosse Pointe Chamber Foundation.  Call the Chamber for tickets. 313-881-GPCC (4722) 

 

8.  Pier Park Autumn Harvest:

The City of Grosse Pointe Farms Pier Park will be hosting its Annual Autumn Harvest at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 13.  This event is open to all Grosse Pointe Farms Residents and their guests. Cost is $5.00 per person.  Enjoy Hayrides, Apple Cider, Fresh Donuts, a Petting Farm, Candy Hunt and Campfire.  For more information please call 343-2405.
