Update: Power Restoration Expected Sunday, Monday

Approximately 80,000 DTE customers in Wayne County are still without power this morning and restoration will continue through Sunday and Monday for the Grosse Pointes.

Damaging winds, lightening and even hail are blamed in widespread power outages throughout the Detroit metro area, including , according to DTE

Of the original 125,000 customers without power, 25,000 have been restored and restoration for those in is expected at the latest by 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The restoration for the of those who lost power Saturday in is expected by 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to the outage maps.

However, more customers on the M streets in the farms lost power Sunday afternoon. DTE had no estimated time to restore those customers' powere as of 11 p.m. Sunday.

In the Park, the area between Jefferson and Lake St. Clair as well as the neighborhoods nearing Alter Road are most affected. In the Farms, the neighborhoods south of Moross Road are most affected.

As of 11 p.m. Sunday, about 1,800 customers were without power in the 48236 area code.

Approximately 80,000 in Wayne County lost power and the county had the most power outages. Some restoration work may continue into Monday and Tuesday for areas without an estimation on restoration time, according to DTE. 

The storms are blamed for downing a few trees in Grosse Pointe Park and even temporarily flooded a few areas because of the heavy downpour. 

National Weather Service had issued a severe thunderstorm warning, which was removed after the storm passed. Strong winds, hail and even funnel clouds were reported throughout the Detroit metro area during the storm. 

Today the forecast shows clear sunny conditions with temperatures reaching 85. The wind is expected to pick up tonight about 8 p.m. with a low in the mid-60s.
