Wayne County Under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch

More than 1,000 customers in the 48230 zip code have been without power since shortly after 7 p.m. with no expected restoration estimate.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect through midnight for much of Michigan, including Wayne and Macomb counties, according to the National Weather Service

The strongest of the storms could produce up to 70 mile per hour windgusts and large hail with a possibility of a tornado. There could also be flash flooding due to torrential rainfall, according to the watch.

Meanwhile, more than 1,000 customers in the 48230 zip code have been without power for three hours, according to DTE outage maps. The area is south of Mack essentially all the way to the lake's edge including customers in Grosse Pointe Park and Detroit.

A restoration estimate is not yet available and the reason for the outage simply states it's an area outage.
