My first concert was at the Ford Auditorium to watch the DSO perform Beethoven under Antol Dorati. It was a great performance and sparked my interest in classical music.

I attended my first DSO concert at Ford Auditorium as a school field trip. Sixten Ehrling was the conductor. If it hadn't been for the Sisters of St. Francis I probably would not have developed such a love for classical music. My first rock concert, in case that is what the Patch meant, was seeing the Dave Clark Five, again, at the Ford Auditorium a very long time ago when you had to include a SASF with your ticket order and couldn't wait until the mail arrived with your tickets.

My parents took my brother and I to the State Fair to see The Supremes perform for free at the band shell. Of course the place was packed on a hot August night so we found at tree to the extreme left of the stage and climbed up for a great view of the stage and the extremely enthusiastic audience. We also went to the Belle Isle band shell numerous times to see the Detroit Concert Band conducted by Leonard B. Smith.
