The Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA) is hosting its first-ever Grandparents Day on May 14. Grandchildren get in free with an adult general admission or DIA membership. All activities are free.
Enjoy puppet performances of Little Red Riding Hood by Paul Mesner Puppets at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Kids and their grandparents will also have a chance to make their own spinning toy in a drop-in workshop, and have a complimentary photo taken as a souvenir.
Grandparents will also be able to take advantage of free valet parking available at the circular drive off John R Street and pick up a coupon at the museum to receive a 20 percent discount in the Museum Shop.
Other activities of interest to kids and their grandparents include playing the popular “Eye Spy” game throughout the galleries; taking a self-guided tour including “10 Things to Do with Kids,” “Knights in Shining Armor” and "Game Day." The special exhibitions It’s a Zoo in Here! Prints and Drawings of Animals and the 74th Annual Detroit Public Schools Student Exhibition will be on view, as well.
Admission is $8 for adults, $6 seniors, $4 youth ages 6-17, free for children 5 and under and for members.
