Enjoy Friday Night Live at the DIA
Enjoy Friday Night Live at the Detroit Institute of Arts. Museum hours are 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays, and you can enjoy
- 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. performances by Jeff "Tain" Watts and Haleem Rasul. This is a DIA collaboration with the Detroit Jazz Festival and pairs drummer Watts with Kresge Krant recipient Rasul and his break-dancing collective, Hardcore Detroit.
- 11 a.m.–3 p.m.: Carve a simple wax crayon to make your own Cylinder Seals. These seals were used by people in Sumeria (present day Iraq) as a signature and to prove ownership.
- 6–9 p.m.: Learn the art and tradition of making Uchiwa, a style of paper fan common in Japan, and make your own to take home.
- Drawing in the galleries for youth (from 6-9 p.m.), with materials provided
- Drawing in the galleries for adults (6-9 p.m.) with materials provided.
Adults must accompany children younger than 12 on workshop and gallery drawing projects.
Museum admission is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors, $4 youths 6-17, $5 for college students with ID, free for children 5 and under, Detroit residents (only on Fridays and with proof of ID), and free for members.
