Auditions: Grosse Pointe Theatre's Next Musical, Jekyll & Hyde

Director Bev Dickinson looks to cast between 20-25 people in this dark and mysterious show, which will run January 15-28. Auditions are being held this weekend, Nov. 5 and 6.

We all have our good days . . . and our bad days. But for Dr. Jekyll, his bad days, well, most of us know how those went. Jekyll & Hyde is the classic story of the duality of good and evil in all of us, and promises to be a gripping and unnerving production for the .

The Theatre will host auditions for Jekyll & Hyde – a dark, provocative and musically fabulous show, on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 1 to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Nov. 6 from 5-7 p.m. at its offices at 315 Fisher Road in the . Those interested in auditioning are encouraged to stop by the office to pick up a script so they are prepared for the auditions, which will include singing and dancing in addition to reading.

For those unfamiliar with it, the story of Jekyll & Hyde is based on Robert Lewis Stevenson’s classic novel, and takes place in 19th century London. Dr. Jekyll is convinced he has found a way to manage the part of the brain that is evil and demented. Unable to solicit for subjects on which to test his serum, he uses himself as his test model. The result is the emergence of the beastly Edward Hyde, who has an insatiable, uncontrollable appetite for all things carnal – including murder.

This musical has three leads: Jekyll/Hyde, optimally a man in his mid-30s; along with Emma Carew and Lucy, both in their 20s--one is Jekyll’s sweet, lovely fiancé and the other a prostitute/dancer at the Red Rat, a London pub.

The play also has a number of featured roles for men and women.

“I will need a large cast for the show, as it is vocally challenging not only for the leads, but for the chorus,” said the show’s director, Bev Dickinson. “And, though the show is dark, it is also hauntingly beautiful, romantic . . . and exciting.”

You do not need to be a member of Grosse Pointe Theatre to audition for a show, but must join ($30) if you are cast. There is no other fee or cost to participating in a Grosse Pointe Theatre show.
