This Week in Grosse Pointe: Feb. 13

A few events happening this week in the Grosse Pointes.

Here are a few events happening this week in Grosse Pointe to know about:

1. The city council will meet as the committee of the whole Monday at 7:30 p.m. to discuss several items. According to the agenda, the following topics will be discussed:

  • the headlee override, including a presentation by Plant Moran about it
  • a proposed ordinance concerning medical marijuana
  • road construction and debt service requirements for both $10 and $15 million figures

As the committee of the whole, the council cannot make any formal decisions but they use the meeting to discuss topics and prepare the research that goes into specific topics. The committee makes recommendations to the council, and those are voted upon in a formal city council meeting.

2. The city council meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting is scheduled for Feb. 27.

3. The council will meet Monday at 7 p.m. On the agenda:

  • a site plan review for a law office
  • the extension of a recycling contract
  • a public hearing on Community Development and Block Grant allocations
  • resolutions to approve the acceptance of two grants from the state related to public safety matters
  • preliminary discussion of 2012/2013 fiscal year budget

4. In Grosse Pointe Woods, the Mayor's Mack Avenue Business Study Committee will meet Thursday beginning at 7 p.m. This recently resurrected committee will discuss a variety of items. According to the agenda, these topics will be up for discussion:

  • business district events
  • methods of communicating with businesses
  • business owner's handbook
  • balloon permits
  • traffic obstructions

5. The Board will meet for an informal work session Monday beginning at 6:30 p.m. The board will immediatley go into a closed session to hearing an appeal related to an expulsion. They are expected to return to open session about 7:30 p.m. Other items to be discussed, according to the agenda:

  • freshman orientation programs
  • strategic planning and budget parameters for 2012/2013 fiscal year
