Candidate for State Representative Newly Drawn District 1 representing Northeast Detroit, Grosse Pointe Shores, Grosse Pointe Woods, and Harper Woods

Candidate for State Representative District 1 wants to hear from you. What issues and or concerns do you have on the state level? Please share.

Hello Patch Community:

My name is Brian Banks and I am a candidate for State Representative in the newly drawn House District 1 representing Northeast Detroit, Grosse Pointe Shores, Grosse Pointe Woods, and Harper Woods. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD in Public Policy & Administration. I also hold a Juris Doctor from Michigan State University College of Law, and both a Bachelor of Science and Master of Education from Wayne State University. I am an advocate for education, an experienced public policy professional, and a committed community leader. My top priorities are Education, Jobs, Public Safety, and Seniors. As your next State Representative, I will adamantly fight for our schools to retain local control while supporting the core visions and standards of our school districts.  What issues and or concerns do you have on the State level, I would love to hear?

your web site and campaign lit say that you are a founding member of a charter school. How do you propose to help Grosse Pointe schools?

What are your thoughts about the Harper Woods Special Assessment? What would you do about a Special Assessment in the Pointes?"

Hello! Neither my website nor my campaign literature says that I am a founding member of a charter school! I am not a founding member of any school. I have worked for both the charter school and public school system and stand strong as an advote for public school education!

Living in what is considered to be one of the best public school districts in the State, I am always concerned about the potential decline of the school system. What exactly do you feel needs to be done to correct the decline in our public schools across the state and more specifically in our own backyard?

I will fight for (a) adequate funding for our students and schools; (b) highly qualified teachers in the classrooms; and (c) our schools to retain local control. Our districts must keep local control while carrying out the mission, visions, and objectives of our school districts.

Thanks for responding so quickly! I like what I am reading. Good luck to you in the election!

Dude, your website says that you are a founding board member of a "Lecey Lindsey Academy" in it's organizational state. If it's not a charter school, what kind of school is it?

Dude? You may not like the person but a little more respect is due.
Mr.Q July 21, 2012 at 03:18 PM
Mark, you are correct; I should have said "Mr. Banks."

Where do you live and pay taxes and why should I vote for you?

You say that you are a "an experienced public policy professional, and a committed community leader." I've lived here over a decade and have never heard of your involvement in any civic or community activities. In what way are you a community leader. And since your statement in the Free Press says that you have criminal convictions as an adult, please explain what the crimes were. And, since you state on the Patch elections page that you managed a $3.7 million dollar budget for GM, please let us know if that was before your convictions or after the convictions, or the cause of your arrest. Thanks.

The League of Women Voters is hosting a candidate forum on Wednesday 10-03-12 @ 7:15-9:00, Grosse Pointe Woods City Council chambers. Perhaps Mr. Banks can answer questions re his minimum 8 felonies and probation in 2008, or address his many District Court appearances this past 1-1/2 years re his evictions and failure to pay rent. Most importantly, perhaps he can answer why he wants to represent GPW after being convicted of forgery there.
