Biggby Coffee Coming to Grosse Pointe Woods

Biggby Coffee is coming to Grosse Pointe Woods.

The coffee shop will be located in the former Talmer Bank at Mack Anenue and Roslyn Road after a contractor converts the building, Grosse Pointe Woods Building Official Gene Tutag said Wednesday. 

Discussion about the possibility has been floating around the Pointes for months--since the closure of Biggby Coffee in Grosse Pointe Farms in December.

While an architect contacted the city several months ago regarding the possibility, there was not contact about the project beyond that conversation until Monday, Tutag said.

The contractor hired to complete the transformation talked with Tutag Monday to review site plans and the necessary permits, he said. Tutag said the pair will be walking the property next week to ensure everyone is on the same page about what alterations need to happen and what areas of the buidling may need attention in the conversion, Tutag said.

It's unclear exactly when the construction will be finished and the new coffee shop will be open, but Tutag said he believes the coffee shop will do well in this location. 

Among his suggestions to the contractor: add in a patio area, which can easily be done at the existing site. The plans will not, at this point, be going before the planning commission because there are very few changes planned for the outside of the building, Tutag said.

Biggby has already listed the Grosse Pointe Woods on its online map, saying it's coming soon to 21110 Mack Ave.

News of Biggby comes only days after the closure of the Grosse Pointe Woods Caribou Coffee was revealed. The Mack Ave. Caribou will close April 14 as part of the company's larger restructuring plan. The location in the Village will be converted to a Peet's Coffee and Tea.
