Crowther Carpets Relocates to Grosse Pointe Woods

The locally owned and operated carpet and flooring store previously housed in the City of Grosse Pointe is relocating to Grosse Pointe Woods. Renovations are currently underway.

is moving into the former Shelby Paint store on Mack Avenue in Grosse Pointe Woods. Renovations are under way at the new location and the former site in the City of Grosse Pointe has been vacated. 

Passersby have been notified of the change with some signage. At first in the new location, a small board sign posted in the window alerted passersby to occupancy of the vacant store front by Crowther Carpets. 

More formally, official signage has since been installed on the front and the back of the building—making the transformation from the faded Shelby Paints sign to the Crowther.

Building Official Gene Tutag said the renovations were expected to take at least a couple of weeks. Several attempts to reach Kevin Crowther for more information about the move were unsuccessful.

The store, which was considered and , has been vacant since Shelby Paints moved down the street a few years ago. The , leaving it vacant for nearly another year.

Crowther's move to the building brings the block of Mack Avenue from Severn to Prestwick roads to full occupancy. It will be housed between General Dentistry and . 

The carpet and flooring business had been located at the corner of Mack Avenue and University for years. The move appeared to begin happening following an . 

Before the temporary sign was placed in the former Shelby Paint store, a temporary sign in the former location alerted customers that the store would re-open. According to public safety officials, Crowther Carpets and Rugs and the other neighboring business, Henry's Cleaners, did not sustain fire damage but did have some smoke damage. Henry's Cleaners also closed temporarily and moved customers' clothing to another location in St. Clair Shores.
