Grosse Pointe Scenes, Faces Fill New Chrysler Commercial

National ad shows Grosse Pointe Park firefighters, a 9-year-old bicyclist and other Grosse Pointers.

Some "hey look" moments during American League Championship Series telecasts take place off the field between innings. Dozens of Metro Detroit sights are in a repeatedly shown Chrysler 300 ad embedded below the photos at right.

Scenes shot during August in , Detroit and Oakland County are stitched into a street-level zip through this region at its real-life finest. The minute of quick cuts include fire fighters on East Jefferson, a local gateway sign and a 9-year-old cyclist in the right place at the right time.

Fourth-grader Andrew DelPlace of Grosse Pointe Park "was just riding his bike down the street when he was filmed," says his mother, Thuong DelPlace. "He's very excited to be on TV and is a celebrity at school." Andrew attends .

"The new commercial . . . captures a day in the life of local citizens in and around Detroit," Chrysler brand president and CEO Saad Chehab told a writer for AutoTrader.com.

The catchy soundtrack is Heart of the City by Jay-Z from The Blueprint, a 2001 album.

The spot is part of an "Imported from Detroit" series by the Wieden + Kennedy agency of Portland, OR. It won an Emmy Award last month for Eminem's memorable Chrysler ad, first shown during the 2011 Super Bowl.
