Larger Showroom part of Banks Vacuum Relocation in Grosse Pointe Woods

The showroom has more than doubled in size as the vacuum speciality shop moved from a 1,400 square-foot building on Mack Avenue to a 4,000 square-foot building just down the street in Grosse Pointe Woods.

The owner of Banks Vacuum celebrated the grand re-opening with Grosse Pointe Woods and Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce officials.
The store, at 20497 Mack Ave., is 4,000 square feet and offers customers a significantly larger shopping area. The larger showroom allows customers to test run vacuums in the store on a multitude of surfaces, including sample rugs with different weaves.
Ken Bank, owner of the 11 stores in the metropolitan area, said the relocation makes the Grosse Pointe Woods location more like the others in size and feel.
The new store formerly housed the Grosse Pointe Design Center. Bank said he gutted the building and started over, explaining the renovations included a new ceiling, new flooring, new lighting, new walls and more.
The former location was about 1,400 square-feet and although customers were able to try out vacuums, it was crowded with just two people shopping.
Bank said the renovations took about three and a half months. This project is the fourth he's completed in two years related to the stores, noting how smoothly this particular project went.
In addition to having more space, the features of the many products are highlighted in video loops playing on several televisions stationed throughout the new store. In addition to offering vacuums for purchase, Banks also provides serving of vacuums and warranties plus price protection, Bank said.
Bank celebrated the grand re-opening with his wife, Lynn Bank, his daughter, Caitlin Bank, Grosse Pointe Woods Mayor Robert Novitke, City Administrator Al Fincham and Grosse Pointe Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Jennifer Boettcher.
The store hours remain the same. The expansion did lead to an increase in the staffing by three, Bank said.
