Neighborhood Club to Hold Open House Jan. 5

Neighborhood Club Recreation and Wellness Center will open for a Community Open House Preview on Saturday, Jan. 5 from 1 – 4 p.m.

 

GROSSE POINTE - After 16 months of construction, the Neighborhood Club Recreation and Wellness Center will open for a Community Open House Preview on Saturday, Jan. 5 from  1 – 4 p.m. The community is invited to come in and check out the new facility before it officially opens for business on Monday, Jan. 7. Staff will be there to conduct tours and show visitors and members everything that the facility offers.

The first floor of the facility is equipped with a warm-water, zero-depth entry pool with a children’s play area and a separate area with lap lanes for swimming and water walking. American Red Cross swim lessons, water aerobic classes and special events will be offered throughout the year. On the same floor is a 4900-square-foot fitnesscenter with state-of-the-art cardiovascular equipment, circuit training machines and a free-weight area. A fitness studio, located within the fitness center, will host more than 30 classes. Across the hall from the fitness center is the gymnasium, with six basketball hoops, a batting cage and in-court standards to accommodate volleyball and pickleball. The first floor also has a generously-sized community room that can be rented for birthday parties and other special events. Party packages include use of the gymnasium or pool and can include pizza and other refreshments.

The second floor will be home to the Neighborhood Club’s preschool and administrative offices. There are alsotwo fully-equipped conference rooms available to rent for meetings, training sessions and other events.

The lower level of the facility is where rowing and other fitness classes will be held. The Sports Enhancement Center is also on that level. It is designed to help athletes eight years old and up learn effective training and exercise techniques to help prevent common injuries and improve performance.

Membership to the facility will be required to use the fitness center, fitness studio, open gym times and the pool, with the exception of the swim lessons, which are an additional cost and open to nonmembers as well. Currently the Neighborhood Club is running membership specials that expire January 31: purchase an annual membership and receive the 13th month free as well as have the enrollment fee waived. Those who purchase an annual family membership will receive 50% off qualifying youth leagues through 2013.

The facility will be open 105 hours each week. Hours are: Monday – Thursday 5 am - 10 pm, Friday 5 am – 9pm, Saturday 7 am – 6 pm and Sunday 8 am – 5 pm. Hours will be slightly reduced in the summer.

Beaumont Health System, a long-term tenant utilizing 25 percent of the space in the building, will offer adult physical therapy in an area adjoining the Neighborhood Club’s Fitness Center. Services for diagnosing and treating childhood learning concerns and pediatric physical, occupational and speech therapy will also be offered at the Neighborhood Club.

The John A. and Marlene L. Boll Center for Human Development, Beaumont Children’s Hospital, on the second floor, will offer diagnostic and therapeutic services for a wide range of learning of developmental concerns; toileting or feeding issues; social skills training; and general behavior management. Individual and group treatments, recommendations for home programs and family education are also available.
