Red Crown Restaurant in Grosse Pointe Park to Open Jan. 22

Red Crown, the first of three restaurants by Mindy Lopus' Silver Pig Restaurant Group, is slated to open this month, with the other eateries to follow soon.

The sign in front of Red Crown restaurant's new digs in the old Standard Oil Station in Grosse Pointe Park announces that they are hiring in preparation for their opening on Jan. 22.

"Yes, we're hiring," Mindy Lopus said with smile.

In fact, Lopus said that her Silver Pig restaurants will hire nearly 130 people between her .

For now, Lopus is concentrating on staffing Red Crown with the 68 employees that will include waitstaff, kitchen and bar employees.

Remodeling of the spaces for Red Crown and Bona Fide Bakery, located in the former Mulier’s Market, has progressed at a breakneck pace since Lopus announced her restaurants were coming to Grosse Pointe Park.

"It's gone really well...remarkably smoothly," Lopus said. "Working with the City has been phenomenal."

"We've had a great response from neighboring businesses.  Everyone has been so welcoming," Lopus continued.

Lopus said she is waiting for final approvals from the health department and liquor licensing for Red Crown, but doesn't expect any delays.

Red Crown will open on Jan. 22 for lunch and dinner and then for breakfast as well starting Jan. 26.  The restaurant will serve American homestyle favorites with a gourmet twist from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 11 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Friday and will be open for breakfast on the weekends from 8 a.m. - 11 p.m. on Saturday and until 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The menu will feature recipes that reflect Lopus' commitment to local, fresh produce.  Diners will enjoy American comfort food favorites with a Southern influence as well as wood fire grilled burgers and homemade ice creams.

Lopus' two other restaurant ventures, Bona Fide Bakery and Tallulah's, will open for business in the coming months.

Bona Fide Bakery will start with commercial support of Red Crown first and then open for retail in early to mid-February.  The restaurant will offer a full coffee and breakfast/lunch bar, Lopus said.

The final restaurant in the Silver Pig Restaurant Group's trifecta, Tallulah's, will open in late spring.

Tallulah's will feature a large outdoor dining area with stone fireplace, soaring gabled ceilings and a four-sided bar when it is completed.

"I'm really excited about it.  It's going to be beautiful and something totally unique," Lopus said.

Weekends till just 11pm at the Red Crown? Why do the Grosse Pointes hate people that might enjoy either going out for a slightly later dinner or those that might like to get a slow start, eat slowly then maybe sit and enjoy a couple drinks & some conversation? Oh yeah, it's because the Grosse Pointes are basically a retirement village and all the oldsters are worried about noise and streets too crowded with parked cars.

Hello Patch readers! To clarify, Red Crown's kitchen will be open until 10 weekdays and 11 on weekends. The bar will be open after the kitchen closes! Also, you can rest assured that if we have later night diners on a regular basis we will be happy to extend our hours! Hope to see all of you soon and thanks so much for all of the support! Mindy

I hope that you have great success, I took some friends to the Noble Pig for lunch yesterday and it was closed up tight. Is it still in business?

Hey Frapples check out Mindy's comment below. Not to worry my man because it is much younger people in that area of GP and you probably won't get many noise complaints.

Thanks for the response. The article was a bit unclear about the "hours" and made it seem like they whole place closed at 11:00. Last summer I was looking at that building and wondering what I could do to occupy it with a new business but without changing the exterior, you beat me to it. I can't wait to take it for a test drive!
